Spiritual Fasting

Outdoor Medetation and Spirituality

Fasting has been said to do more than just heal the body. It heals the soul. It restores harmony between the psyche and body and attunes the individual to his purpose and environment. When your body starts to heal, it is a spiritual experience, indeed, a miracle.

You are at once initiated into the secrets of nature. When the body becomes clean, the mind becomes clear. You are reminded of your connection to your fellow human beings, the planet and the universe. It is an enlightening experience. Herbert Shelton, the father of fasting said the “freedom and ease you experience during abstinence enables you to discover new undreamed of depths to the meaning of life.”

True spiritual fasting is like a meditation. Ideally, it is practiced in silence-no eating, no talking. You are alone with your thoughts and eventually, at the point of total peace, even they evaporate. Diet is not the issue. Weight is not the issue. Discipline, spiritual growth and expansion of consciousness is everything. Food connects you to your body and the earth. Fasting releases your spirituality. You may even discover some psychic abilities as waste products from undigested food and other materials no longer interfere with nerve linkages and your vital energies are free to center in your upper chakras (energy centers) instead of your stomach. Conquering your appetite and desires allows you to focus your thoughts on the discovery of the ‘heaven’ within.
